The Opal Coast Public/Private Entity (SMCO), which encompasses the towns of Boulogne-sur-Mer, Calais, Dunkirk and Saint-Omer, the Opal Coast University’s four research and higher education centres, is launching a call for project proposals for 5 three-year research grants.

The first grants were awarded for the academic year 2008-2009. They provide concrete support for Opal Coast University research projects, offering PhD students great research opportunities.

THE AIM IS TWOFOLD >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

>To enhance the Opal Coast University’s research potential

    >To promote the competitiveness and reach of the coastal area by involving the business world in its research and by its involvement in coastal development issues.

Particular attention will be paid to projects that incorporate the competitiveness hubs (materials and applications for sustainable use, water-related products, UP-TEX and I-Trans) and/or the centres of excellence (environmental issues and sustainable development) located on the coast.
A key underlying aim is to attract candidates with an exemplary academic record.
The Opal Coast University wishes to attract high achieving doctoral students from other universities and from abroad who have an interesting academic project that focuses on coastal area issues.
